It is necessary to build a healthier, sustainable and fair urban environment, including concepts such as the so-called 15-minute city – market, park, hospital, school, work – all within 15 minutes walking distance.
But the evolution of smart cities is based on expensive and modern infrastructure. The main problem in Bulgaria’s urban development is that corruption takes the necessary resources to create and maintain such a set of facilities, systems and industries. However, this infrastructure should be in place before restrictions related to private vehicles are proposed or imposed on the public.
The Concept of smart villages is a global modern approach for off-grid communities based on a local lifestyle designed in an independent manner without reliance on one or more public centralized utilities. It aims to release tensions and ease burden on cities by turning the concept into a method of reverse migration. I.e., the return to the villages of more young people, even with occupations suitable for remote work in the IT sector.
